Frame Design & Material

What Makes Our Frames Different ?

When it comes to framing fine art photography, details matter. At Gwarnic. we don’t cut corners — we build every frame to museum-grade standards, designed to protect and showcase your artwork for decades.

Let’s break down the layers behind our premium frames

1. Frame

We use solid wood frames — not cheap MDF alternatives that warp or chip over time. Our frames are handcrafted to last and complement the art they hold.

2. Framing Glass

We use conservation-grade glass with 99% UV protection. This helps prevent fading and preserves the integrity of your artwork. No plastic-like Perspex here — just crystal-clear, durable protection.

3. Mat Board (Passepartout)

Our mat boards are 100% cotton, acid-free, and lignin-free — they don’t yellow or degrade over time like cheaper pulp-based alternatives, which often react poorly to humidity.

4. Artwork

Your print is the centerpiece — and we treat it like one. It is carefully placed between archival-quality materials to prevent damage or buckling.

5. Mounting Board

Also acid-free and cotton-based, this layer keeps your print perfectly flat without adhesives touching the artwork itself.

6. Backer Board

A rigid archival foam core offers additional structure and protection, preventing your artwork from warping or sagging.

7. Dust Cover

The back is sealed with acid-free frame-backing paper, protecting your print from dust and insects.

Yes, you can find cheaper frames elsewhere — but here’s what you’re likely getting:

- MDF frames that don’t last

- No foamboard — your print will buckle over time

- Yellowing mats that aren’t acid-free

- Plastic glazing that scratches and warps

Invest in quality. Invest in preservation. Invest in art that lasts. Got questions about custom framing or care? Drop us a message!

Frames & Other Materials

At Gwarnic, we understand the value of high-quality wall art and artwork. That’s why we use only the best quality wooden frames for our artwork, ensuring that they not only look great but also stand the test of time.

The frame profile we use radiates a simple elegance with its classic profile and also displays a high quality workmanship. These solid wooden frames are made in Germany from FSC certified wood. The wood comes from sustainable managed forests that meet the criteria of the Forest Stewardship Council.

The frames are equipped with edge-ground float glass, an acid-free insert and a sturdy MDF rear panel. The rear panels are equipped with torsion springs in portrait and landscape format. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹
