Diane Agius Calleja was born in 1965 and grew up in St Julians. She was always interested in art and started drawing since childhood. Diane is interested in capturing the world through watercolour and oil, focusing on both serene landscapes and vibrant urban scenes. Her work reflects a passion for translating the beauty of nature and the dynamic energy of city life into fluid, evocative paintings.
In watercolour landscape works she aims to convey the tranquil essence of natural settings with the use of delicate washes and subtle gradients and gentle interplay of light and shadow. Each piece is crafted to evoke a sense of peace and connection to the natural world. In contrast, her urban scenes are characterised by their composition and fresh colours.
She explores the intricate details of city life, from bustling streets and historic architecture to quiet alleyways. Her goal is to capture the unique character of each scene, highlighting urban environments. In oil landscapes she captures the sublime beauty of nature through rich and vivid colours. With a deep appreciation for the natural world and translates the experience and emotions into evocative landscapes that invite viewers to explore and connect with the environment.
Whether through the calm of a distant horizon or the vibrancy of a crowded street, Diane strives to bring each scene to life with depth and authenticity. Diane practices various art forms and has participated in many exhibitions in Malta and abroad.
