Il-Mazza u L-Inkwina

Wrought iron forger

It is mind-blowing to think that Maltese blacksmiths have been creating lunettes, transom windows, rosettes and other wrought iron pieces manually for decades. This dying trade is one of the reasons why old Maltese buildings hold such charm in our eyes and in those of foreigners who come to our shores. So it is sad to think that soon, our local skilled blacksmiths will be retiring and taking this trade with them. This is why we have established Il-Mazza u L-Inkwina. We are Kurt Micallef and Maria Micallef, and we have joined forces to preserve some of the most intricate and recognisable wrought iron in framed artwork before these designs are lost forever. We have made it our mission to immortalise these traditional designs. Kurt is the creative force behind the brand. He is the one creating the artwork, while I am the one driving the brand online and making sure these designs are delivered to the people who appreciate them. Everything about our brand is a tribute to the undeniable skill of Maltese blacksmiths. Even the name. Il-Mazza u l-Inkwina are two of the most used tools by blacksmiths when creating these designs. Here’s to hoping you enjoy and appreciate these traditional designs as much as we do!
