Louis Casha was born in Rabat, Malta on 22 nd June 1946. He attended St. Albert’s College, St. Michael’s College of Education, and the University of Malta from where he graduated B.A. (Gen) in History, Archaeology, and Maltese.

He started painting in the late 1960’s and immediately turned to abstract influences, with his first paintings being in the abstract expressionist style. His main sources of inspiration were nature and archaeology which still feature in his works today. Louis also started painting optical black and white or black and red geometric works

inspired by Malta’s Bronze Age pottery ware, notably those of Borg in-Nadur and Bahrija phases. These were evident in his 1986 solo exhibition Time and Space held at the Fine Arts Museum in Valletta, Malta.

Coloured geometric works inspired by recollections of imaginary visions from his childhood kaleidoscope toy were exhibited at his 2004 solo exhibition From Prehistoric to Kaleidoscopic held at the National Archives in Rabat, Malta. He later produced artworks featuring the minimal art genre.

He has exhibited in numerous personal and collective exhibitions and several of his artworks are in private collections nationally and internationally. His artworks have been appraised by Malta’s leading art critics as symbolic, lyrical, and poetic.
